Calling all fishermen and women: get ready to kick off the 2018 walleye season in the Iowa Great Lakes during the 36th Annual Walleye Weekend on May 5 and 6. The fun weekend forming memories with friends and families is reason alone to get excited, but there may be another small benefit: the $36,000 GRAND PRIZE! Josh B. from Ames, Iowa was last year’s grand prize winner—who will be next? The cost of the tournament is $25 for entrants aged 16 and older, and $15 for those aged 15 and younger. The Extended Contest is only an additional $15 and allows you to continue to fish for one of the tagged walleye through August 31st. The first walleye caught during the extended contest heads home with 20% of the proceeds generated from the contest, the second receives 15%, and the third receives 10%. Walleye Weekend officially begins at 12:01 AM on Saturday, May 5th and concludes at noon on Sunday, May 6th. There will be an Awards Luncheon at the Dickinson County Expo Building in Spirit Lake beginning at noon on Sunday. The Luncheon is free to those who registered in the tournament, and it is just $5 for the general public.
