Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 9:41 AM We are heading to the Lake this weekend and want to catch Walleye and Pike. Where are they biting? |

Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 10:02 AM Is it possible to update the listings on this site? Okoboji Bath and Body, Enchanted Oaks, RJ's and the End Zone are all closed. Thank you |

Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 12:07 PM Our 'Boji vacation has been a family tradition for decades. This year, however, we come with a newly-detected wheat allergy. Some restaurants are getting savvy about this already, but wondering if anyone can specifically recommend eateries (and grocers) that would carry more wheat-free, gluten-free selections than others? Thanks. |
| gluten free | gluten free |
Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:27 PM The organic market on Hill Ave in Spirit Lake will have gluten free products, dried pasta, and so forth. You'll find quite a bit of gluten-free mixes at Hy-Vee grocery, although the one at Spirit Lake isn't large enough to have the Health Market section some of the larger ones have. Kazarelli's menu says that they have gluten free options. |

Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 4:04 PM There is one part of the frozen food section at Hy -Vee that has all gluten-free foods, including among other things frozen pizza dough, vegetable noodle soup, and bread. |
| Gluten free at Bob's | Lisa |
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 2:41 PM Thanks for the gluten free suggestions. Will need to wait for our August trip to try Kazarelli's but I wanted to give a public applause for Bob's next to the greenspace in Arnold's Park. They went out of their way for my husband so he could just build his own "tavern" with the gluten-free bread we brought with us. No questions. Just put the meat in a cup (with onions etc). We went back and they remembered us from the day before. Super service *listening* to their customers! We will definitely be eating there again (and again) when we're back for a whole week. |

| Rebo's & Bud's | Boji Lover |
Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 6:45 PM Last night three of us started at Rebo's at the Emporium for dinner. That restaurant won't be back next year. Horrible service and mediocre food at best. (I should specify we only had the combo app.)There were only 3 tables there and it took a good ten minutes before we had any service. It then took another several minutes before we got our drinks and the same for ordering our appetizer. We almost walked out but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt being a new spot. Won't ever go there again. We then went to Bud's Pub and had great service and amazing pulled pork sandwiches. |

Monday, June 14, 2010 at 10:53 AM Did anyone else see the Aurora Borealis early Sunday morning, June 13, 2010, over Lake Okoboji? We saw it around 1:00 - 1:30 AM . . . |

Monday, June 14, 2010 at 12:13 PM I agree that Rebo's service was not good. We were there a few week-ends ago and waited for a table when there were 4 opened and the same 4 were opened the whole time we were there. The food was good but not worth the bad service. We waited for drinks... I also understand that they do not do any business in the Okoboji area...that may not be a good idea. The community will support what supports the community. |

Monday, June 14, 2010 at 7:24 PM Hi fellow Okoboji fans, I want to send a nice note to the owners of the Koffee Kup. I think it's Diane and Don. Is that correct? Does anyone know their last name? Thanks very much! |

Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:59 AM Could the Dry Dock cam please be fixed? It is stuck on dreary Monday. I want to see the lake on this beautiful day. Thanks! |

Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 4:06 PM Is there still a nice restaurant on the upper level of the Emporium above Whiskey Dick's? It used to be Maxwell's (before they expanded and moved), and assorted other names over the years. We would like more of a dress-up establishment overlooking the lake one night while we're there. |
| Rebo's | Rebo's |
Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 9:23 PM After Maxwell's there was Gepetto's, and now it's called Rebo's. You can view the menu at their Sioux City location's website. It's fusion/southwest/caribbean/creole and most food has a fair "bite". Some other posters on this board have said that service is slow, but it was ok the night I went. Not somewhere I would go night after night, but good for a change of pace. Not as "dressy" as the predecessors were. |

Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 7:07 AM For good food overlooking the lake there is now just Maxwell's at the park. Yesterday's is always wonderful. Another great new spot is LaChiesa in Spencer. It overlooks the Little Sioux and frisbee golf. We ate there last night. The service was a bit slow but the food was wonderful. We had the pork chop and 3 of their pizzas. Finished with tiramasu that is more like a divine chocolate cake than traditional tirimasu. |

Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 9:42 AM There is also Bracco's with a terrific view, but not "fine dining" or a "dress up" place. A bit hard to find if you're not coming by boat. The Wharf is at the bridge between East and West Okoboji, but again, it's a very casual place. Sure miss the old Crescent Beach. Too bad it's gone. |

Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 4:08 PM Thanks for the update to this year's restaurant-scape. We've been to Bracco's (agree with atmosphere), and miss Vern & Coila's (even tho not on the lake) and the old Wharf. The Inn doesn't really have much more than casual, and the Main Event is pretty much with the rest of them. Even Maxwell's with its good location and food isn't what it or Gepetto's used to be. Sad that there can't be one decent supper-club/linen tablecloth establishment that the lakeside can support. |

Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 5:19 PM Two to try are Fresh in downtown Sprit Lake and Kazarelli's on the west side of Lake Okoboji. At Kazarellis the dining room is a bit more upmarket, although the same food is served in the more casual bar/lounge area. At Fresh, you should find interesting tastes, but again, neither has a lake view. |
| Dining out | not on the lake |
Friday, June 18, 2010 at 6:04 PM Another good place to eat is Outriggers--it was recommended to us a couple of years ago and the food is very good but it is not on the lake. |
| boating | 101 |
Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 10:21 PM Its geting to be that time of year again when your on vacation or living here and doing a lot of boating. Please... If you go into a weedy area,, you can see weeds under water.. once you are out of them, put your boat in reverse so the weeds come off. This will keep your boat from over heating. Always watch your guages like you do your car. If you hear a alarm going off in your boat. (not depth finder) turn off your boat. Check the oil, gear lube bottle, and make sure your engine temp is not over 200 degrees. If you see a little what looks like smoke DO NOT CAll 911. YOUR BOAT IS JUST OVER HEATING. Now on to parking.. When aproching a dock, have your front of theboat at a 30 degree angle as if you where going to park your car in a parking lot. Start to turn the front of the boat away from the dock as you get closer so you dont hit the dock. You will then be along side the dock with the bow closer than the front. Turn the stearing wheel twords the dock with the boat in nuteral. Put the boat in reverse and the back end will now be paraell with the front of the boat and you should be layed against the dock. |
| sorry | typo |
Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 10:39 PM on the boat parking.. the bow will be closer to the dock than the back of the boat. also it is easier to park on the drivers side. DO NOT have someone standing up in the front of the boat when you are trying to dock. as it effects your vison when trying to dock. do not turn off the boat and let it ram into the dock. Lastly when puting your boat in the water whith the boat on a trailer, do not unhook the winch strap if its on a roller trailer untill the boat is actually in the water and the boat is running and is in gear with a little throtle so the boat doesnt come off the trailer prior to reaching the water, or seriously injure you or another person when you unhook the strap from the boat and handle slaps your hand or arm when the boat is sliding off the trailer at a fast rate of speed. |

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:45 AM Just a heads up their is swimmers itch at OBW. Our kids and several kids with us all have it, we were their Saturday and Sunday. |
| Swimmer's | itch@spiritlake.com |
Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:12 PM Seems like we get swimmer's itch no matter when or where we swim in the lake anymore. I make it a habit of taking along a couple of jugs of water to pour over us when we're done swimming. Too bad the lakes are getting so bad. |
| police | police |
Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 2:33 AM What is with the police lately. We need to have some of them cut or fired. That goes for DNR too. I have never gotten a ticket or fine in my life and I have gotten pulled over more this summer than I have in the past 5 years. I still haven't gotten a ticket but I have had my car searched twice with my consent and gotten pulled over 5+ times, the usual excuse is swerving or going over the lines. I know they are just bullshit excuses to catch drunk people but this is getting ridiculous. Just because I stay at my girlfriends till midnight or later doesn't mean I am a drunk driver. The most pissed I have been in a while is when I got pulled over and the cop asked me why my eyes were watery and hinting that I was high and that he was gonna search my car, so I told him to search it and he let me go. I have never smoked weed in my life. The DNR is no better. My uncle takes our family out every other weekend to the barefoot bar and on the way back we got a lifejacket check and they searched our boat for drugs. My uncle doesn't even drink more than 1 drink and has probably never seen drugs in his life. This kind of harassment hasn't happened in years before so whats with them this year. We as local residents need to rise up and tell the city to cut back on cops hours and have a meeting with them about cutting back on the traffic stops. Don't they realize that there is a point to where the public turns against law enforcement instead of embracing them. Its sad when you can feel safer on the roads when it's a bunch of drunk drivers than when theres cops. It never use to be like this. Do you want Okoboji to turn into a town where people are so oppressed by the police that the common person will cover for criminals instead of alert the police because they can all sympathize with the criminals. We are not all criminals so back off before we are forced to change things. |

| Bad Dining Experience | ctnorman@gmail.com |
Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 5:04 AM I have officially put Tweeters on my list of "NEVER AGAIN" I have dined at this restaurant five times this summer and was satisfied three times. Don't order the western burger unless you are crazy for A1 sauce, leaves a terrible taste in your mouth. Last night the salad was warm and swimming in dressing. The Mexican food was terrible, looked like it had been pre made about a month ago, the tea was extremely bitter, the biggest problem with Tweeters is lack of consistency with the service and food. They should take a page out of the big city restaurant management book and have a roving manager check with the guests and find out if they are happy with the food and service. It would probably be too much of full time job taking the complaints all in. One last thing, the level of noise pollution in the new building is ridiculous. They need to train their waitresses to serve based on WHO COMES IN FIRST, we waited and waited and waited. There are too many restaurants in the Okoboji area for me to go back to this joint. |
| Tweeters | BojiLover |
Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 8:01 AM We had the opposite experience at Tweeters. Three of us ate there around 6 Saturday night. Our service was good, not great but good. We started with their onion rings. Good and hot. I had the walleye, my husband the steak and our daughter had a burger. This was our first dinner of the season. While the atmosphere is nothing like the old Tweeters we all agreed our dinner was good and worth returning for. It wasn't terribly busy but about 2/3rds full. We had eaten there for lunch a few weeks before and it was also good. |
| * | Never again! |
Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 11:03 AM We ate at Tweeter's last October, and never again! It wasn't bad food or service. It was on a Saturday afternoon, and there was a Hawkeye game turned up so loud it was ridiculous, not to mention the drunk lady a couple tables away standing up and yelling loudly and cheering, with a beer in one hand, and a drink in the other. Obnoxious, loud, and disgusting! Nothing against the Hawkeyes, or football games, but wow - turn the t.v. down, and get the drunks out! |

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 9:33 PM I have been to REBOS three times and it was great! The service was good and the food was awesome! Something different then steak, prime rib and walleye! I love the view and finally it is at prices us locals can afford! God Bless that! I agree with Outrigger being good too...I have had both spectrums of service and food at Tweeters...no consistancy. I will spend my money at Rebos, Outrigger and Remingtons! Nice places and family prices! |

Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 8:28 AM We aren't the affluent summer population, just looking for good local cuisine menu (yes, steak prime rib walleye chops with baked potato, linen table cloths) with a good view of the lake before a night at the OST. We checked the menu at Rebo's and it just didn't appeal to us. We did eat at Fresh, great food but the acoustics are horrible... one loud table in the other side made it impossible to carry on a reasonable conversation at our own table. Going through the yellow pages we were amazed that if you take out the Mexican, Subways or Asian restaurants, there just aren't that many left. What area needs 45 places to get a burrito when you have The Taco House, anyway? :-0))) |

Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 12:41 PM We just returned from a weekend at Okoboji, and we ate at Tweeters. Food was fine, and the new remodeling is very nice...even if it's all Hawkeye colors. They cater to Iowa fans, so I would be shocked if I went to Tweeters during an Iowa game and didn't have that sort of experience. We went up for the Okoboji bike ride, and while the ride was as good as ever (thanks to the new bike trails along Hwy. 86), what was up with the T-shirts? Once color with "University Okoboji Campus Ride 2010" on both sides, plus the U of O logo? It's almost as someone forgot to design the T-shirt and they whipped something up Friday afternoon before printing the T-shirts. |
