| TOO MANY Condos | 4 Sale |
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 8:16 AM There may be 15 condos for sale in Arnolds Park but there are 176 condos fro sale according to the MLS (there could be more) sad when there are more condos then homes for sale and does that mean another 176 boats added to the already over populated lakes? Developers are continuing to buy up land and put up more condos; which will continue to drive our tax/land values up but who will be able to afford to buy our homes if we need to sell! How much more can traffic can the lakes handle? West lake property owners are concerned about flooding what about more and larger boat traffic washing away your shoreline? We live on East lake and I sit on the dock and watch the waves fro the large/big 30footers or more bet against the shore and ever time more and more land goes out with the wave. |

Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 10:41 AM The number of condos or houses for sale really isn't very significant without knowing how many were for sale at roughly this same time last year, the year before, etc. |

| condo's | 4 sale |
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 4:17 PM I have seen alot of condos for sale for a long. I was wondering how they would all sell when all of this OVER developement was going on. I agree that all it is doing is raising property taxes for everyone. |

Friday, April 3, 2009 at 4:48 PM Daryl Lee past away a little over a year ago. If my information is correct he was waiting for a heart transplant. He was a very funny guy. Had alot of fun times going to see him play. |

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 9:20 PM "We are firmly convinced the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the institution of civil marriage does not substantially further any important governmental objective," the Supreme Court wrote. Iowa lawmakers have "excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification." I would have never thought that in 2009 this would happen. It shows that there is change and no one has the right to judge regardless of who you are or what your decisions are. For all the people, including myself, that have a strongth faith in God and The Bible, we don't have the right to judge or say what is right or wrong. When the time comes God will judge you for you and not for what people interpret as being right or wrong. Happy Weekend! |

Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 1:42 PM Was wondering if anyone has heard if Spirit Lake is going to have their "junk days" Thought it was usually around the 1st of May when they did it haven't seen anything advertised. Hope they don't stop doing it.. With prices of their water and garbage bags and 10.50 per houehold to "read of water meter" the least they could do is continue this 1 thing!!! |

Friday, April 10, 2009 at 10:56 PM So a state rep from Caroll. is concerned about a boat, barge, watercraft. and is certified and classified and approved by the IOWA DNR (which by the way has a outboard motor on it) who inspects all boats including dock and hoist barges, wants to change the wording on a class D liquor licenseso that only gambeling boats can have them. so with that stated no other excursion boat that is not a gambeling boat in Iowa can have one. If im correct the queen II has one right? and fillenworths, and the village princess? And dont they do private wedding partys on the Queen still which im sure helps bring dolors into the park. rent the queen then have a dance at the roof garden. I think he should be more concerned aout how to save campgrounds or Gardner cabin. to make this short. they also closed the doors and booted out 600 tax payers during a tax bill that would lay off more people as I understand it. all i can say is WOW!! it makes me sick to my stomache when we move backwords. im sure im gona get negitve feed back but I really dont care. they have never been fined but yet other bars can be fined year after year and they get to pick when they can shut down. so they close in the winter when they vaction anyway. I mean seriously get real. Closing a bar down for 2 weeks in the winter isnt much considering a bar on 1 weekend any weekend in the summer just covered that loss in a 2 week perid in 2 nights maybe 3. bars who charge cover make easy 5 grand a weekend. Yes I understand that people say its noisy or people liter, they walk through yards yada yada. For one its a lake, of course its gona carry sound more. heck yell your neighbor from your patio when hes on the dock and someone across the lake can hear it lol. and for the other stuff its no no differnt than someone going to mcdonalds to buy a hamburger and the person drives off in his car finishes it and then throws the bag with all his garbage out the window. Lets close Mcdonalds for having drive thru cuz someone was able liter. or close any other bar cuz someone drank to much they walked home and along the went through your yard and maybe had to pee. its dark you cant see anything and its just water.they watered the yard for you. :) at least they arent driving drunk and how is it differnt than someone traveling and pull of the road and pee in a ditch, theres not its just you saw someone do it or its in your yard well you did it too but somewhere else and no one saw or maybe some one did. Just smile, laugh, get over it. LIFE IS GOOD!! Okoboj allways will be and allways has been a place of tourism. well unless we worry about this and not a state funded boat ramp needing to be repaired that cant cuz we waisted more tax money on a stupid issue like this. Be thankfull we have a strong econmy compaired to the rest of the country. clean lakes+businesses+entertainment+tourist= ? wait for it. MONEY! which = job for you. sorry this is long but i saw a lot of familers posting to articles about this topic on other posts. |

Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 7:46 AM Here we go again, there are ten boats in the state other than gaming boats that have or are eligible for a liquor liscense, and what do we have? Another attack aimed at Butch, with the end result (if they succeed) of harming other privite enterprise and protecting the gaming industry. Shame on them. |

Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 9:36 AM The so called State Representative Rod Roberts (Rod.Roberts@legis.state.ia.us)from Carroll, Iowa needs to spend more in Carroll, Iowa doing work for their community and less time worrying about Okoboji Boat Works and Butch Parks. Boat Works was there long before those ugly Condo's and it deserves to remain open at it's full capacity providing jobs for the fine people who work there. My family and friends spend time there at the OBW every weekend. This is a FAMILY establishment that provides jobs to people with families and children. How dare Mr. Roberts take jobs away from these people. Doesn't he realize that if Butch could open the inside of OBW there would be more jobs for the community? More families that could be fed? This is not the time to be taking jobs away from people. We need to be creating them. And that is exactly what Mr. Parks vision is. This guy is one of the entitlement people who feel the Lake belongs to him. Well guess what buddy it doesn't. Okoboji will always be full of tourists you can't stop that. Tourism makes a lot of money for the area. You can't stop it. I think everybody who has a boat should go park it outside of the run down Condo's and blast their music as loud as they can. That is the price you pay to live on a Lake. If old Rod doesn't like the noise then move. Better yet Rod stay home and enjoy the quiet time and help those folks who voted you in to your ivory tower office. I think we all need to write Mr. Roberts and perhaps his hometown newspaper http://carrollspaper.com/ so that we can tell him what we think of him and let the fine people of Carroll, Iowa know what he does with their political time. Here is the link to the Des Moines Register article. I was just shocked when I read this. www.desmoinesregister.comhttp://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20090330/NEWS/90330069/1001. The Fish Shack is unsafe. Wow I think I could probably swim to shore if it sank. I have to agree with WOW spend your time helping with a worthy cause such as the Gardner Cabin or just go home Rod baby. |

Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 1:57 PM Well I was eating or I should say trying to eat at the Endzone Thursday nite well let me just tell you the service was really bad!! I wonder who does the hiring there? I should say do the owners really care? I was in there a couple of times during the winter and had great service we always had the same waitress unfortunately I didn't see her thursday. |
| wow | Obw Casinohere wecome |
Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3:04 PM Since Mr Parks cant reface the existing Obw and put money into it because he is unsure if the city of Okoboji and the state will try to rewrite the law after his establishment is refaced. He was un able to tare down the marina and creat condos which at that time Beaches Resort and Vergies South Side Resort was still there. Thus making the area by the bridge more eye apealing and thus encreasing property value. They where tasefully done and had a look that was beutifully landscaped.(had three house looking type buildings with two or 3 units per building. It was nothing like kum and Go, Beaches, and wasnt boxy like the ones on south Shore of Big Spirt. (I beleave he still has the print of his design )The people around them where concerned about trafice in that area. After that was shot down he then started working on refacing Obw and turn it into a bar resturant that has many great lakes history atrifacts in it from wood boats, skis, snowmobies exct. and perhaps a hotel/resort dirrectly abov. . Kids would enjoy the sand beach and giant water slides, as well as may other great ideas. All the junk houses in the area would be cleaned out of there and would have adiquit parking for all. It would bring back the resort type feel that was lost do to other condos that should not of been built. His only last option is to sell it to the Indians. Perhaps they will be able to bring back the atmosphere that was once here that is now no more. I also hope that someone will by the old Orleans Hotel and try to turn that into a resort. It would make a heck of a nice bed and breakfest. I think it has 16 rooms. But like everything else around here Im sure it will too Become a Condo. They even are listing as being able to handel multiple units. Pretty sad huh? |

Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 5:22 PM The spelling and grammar on these last few posts is just plain sad. I don't think I would take any economic advice from any of these people! |
| Amen | Amen |
Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 8:04 PM And one more AMEN!! It would also be good, in addition to spelling and grammer, if people would learn the laws and WHY things are done as they are instead of the constant whining about poor little butchy. |

Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM As it is now passenger=carrying boats or ships for hire with a capacity of twenty=five persons or more operating in inland or boundary waters, and shall authorize the holder to sell or furnish alcoholic beverages, wine, and beer to passengers for 1onsumption only on trains, watercraft as described in this0 section, or aircraft, respectively. Each license is valid throughout the state. Only one license is required for all trains, watercraft, or aircraft operated in the state by the licensee. However, if a watercraft is an excursion gambling 1 14 boat licensed under chapter 99F, the owner shall obtain a separate class "D" liquor control license for each excursion gambling boat operating in the waters of this state. New one... purposes of eligibility for issuance of a class "D" liquor control license pursuant to this subparagraph, a watercraft is not a passenger carrying boat or ship for hire if the watercraft is not an excursion gambling boat licensed under chapter 99F, the sale of alcoholic liquor, wine, or beer is a primary part of the ownership or operation of the watercraft, and the transport of passengers for hire is only an incidental part of that ownership or operation. 1 25 EXPLANATION 1 26 This bill amends Code section 123.30 of the Iowa alcoholicbeverage control Act to provide that a watercraft is not a passenger carrying boat or ship for hire that is eligible to receive a class "D" liquor control license if the watercraft is not an excursion gambling boat licensed under Code chapter 1 31 99F, the sale of alcoholic liquor, wine, or beer is a primary part of the ownership or operation of the watercraft, and the transport of passengers for hire is only an incidental part of that ownership or operation. 1 35 LSB 1853HC 83 Aka the queen, fills boats or the princess can also no longer sell liquor either. And since he is only making it legal for gambeling boats I guess that means he is in full support of having a gambeling boat in the Iowa Great lakes. Pretty intersting huh? |

Monday, April 13, 2009 at 9:14 AM Why not just ban alcohol all the places that smoking is banned. Think of all the lives that would be saved. |
| alcohol is good | for you! |
Monday, April 13, 2009 at 2:04 PM Ask your doctor on this one even but if you have one drink a day but not more than three it is actually GOOD for you. And smokeing was banned cuz the second hand part of it. which casues cancer. but all in all every one is going to die at some point in time and every one is going to die of something. Its just nice to walk into a place for a drink or get someting to eat and not smell like smoke and have to take off your clothes as soon as you get home and throw your clothes in the laundry cuz the smell is so bad. i think im gona have a beer! its 5 o clock some where lol |

Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 10:13 PM I am looking for someone who likes to work with wood. I would like to have a office desk but everything I have found (very limited) at the furniture stores does not meet the size requirement I would like. I would like to know of individuals who are reasonable that could build a desk with the modifications I am interested in. If you know of someone please email me a contact information at bbtewes@live.com. Thank you very much. Brenda |

Friday, April 17, 2009 at 12:19 PM Been a sesonal camper at Cenla RV park for the last 5 years. Great place to camp for a weekend or the season. Good people around us and the staff are great. They have good rules that all can live by. It's quiet at night, got a pool, volleyball, fishing dock on Center Lake and great for kids. They watch out for you and your property, have never had anything taken from my sight. Check them out under campgrounds on this page, sorry if I messed up on any of my grammer. |

Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 8:08 PM Need to find where lakes area folks purchase the personalized sailboat outdoor wall plaques we see on various homes. They appear to be cut out of wood and painted one color with an area at the bottom that show the family name. Is there a local sign shop that produces them? Thanks |

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 3:40 PM We got our personalized anchor (they also made lighthouses and sailboats) from Cabin Fever - a gift shop which is now closed. They are metal and painted in red, white or blue and I think were made in Spencer at a manufacturer. The owner of Gingham Inn used to own Cabin Fever and she would know where they came from and if you can still get them. |

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 10:32 PM I wanted to let everyone know bout my stay at The Ramada in Spirit Lake. WOW! I had a great clean room and the staff there is amazing! You walk in and it feels warm and inviting. I have stayed there a couple different times the last couple weeks and have never been happier at any hotel. I checked in with a gentleman named "Michael" I believe. He had a very warm welcoming smile and a great personality. He went out of his way any way he could to make sure I was happy with any request! He wasn't snobish or didn't act like he didn't want to be there, I have encountered that many times at other places. So props to The Ramada and Michael! I deff. recommend this to anyone that comes to the area! |
