Spent 10 days up in Okoboji over the holidays. Lots of ice fishing in Millers Bay where our place is located. Pickups were on the ice. Husband shoveled about 8 inches of snow off the driveway and it was very, very cold. Beautiful time to walk and reflect for the new year.

DTV What Options?
Monday, January 12, 2009 at 4:19 PM
DTV (direct TV) is soon approaching; we have a home that we come to year round but have never had cable TV do to the fact that we come there to get away from that stuff but we do like to have TV for the news-mostly the weather. What are our options to still receive TV news/weather (i.e. SX City; SX Falls, etc)Tried for a coupon to buy converter box but never did receive it. Should we go cable or box and if the vote is cable doe the service in the area offer seasonal rates?

We have a year round cabin in Spirit Lake and we have Mediacom and there are alot of duplicate channels (like 3 channels of the same thing) we just have the basic service which is like $28.00 a month, which I thing is expensive especially for what you get, but if you want TV service I guess this is what you get unless you go satellite or something else. And no they don't seasonal rates (wish they did)

Tweeter's is almost all framed in and has a roof. Won't be long now. Ice is over 17 inches thick as of yesterday, maybe more after last night, today and tomorrow. Very cold (below zero all day) yuk. But...great for upcoming Winter games. Lots of beautiful new snow also. DNR says we have the safest ice in several years for Winter Games. Yeah...Come on Winter Games. Summer is not far behind.....

TV OptionsSave Money!

Save your money on cable or satellite. Get a converter box and put up an antenna. We've got a box with an antenna on the roof and an HD TV. The picture is great. We get channels from Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Mankato, Ft Dodge (IPTV), and Minneapolis. We also receive several 24/7 weather channels with live radar.

DTVOR YOU COULD

Just buy a new small flat screen for around $200 and not have to purchase a converter box or buy cable - and the tv will pay itself off in a couple years of not having to buy cable. It would work really well if you don't even have a television set at the lake home at all yet. Even so - it's nice to view the FREE HD channels from ABC, CBS, and NBC - that's something you won't be able to do with an older model and an antenna. THe new flat screen alsready have that converter piece built in so you don't need to worry about a converter for it :) YIPPY!

My brother and I were in town last weekend to drive my parents car back to Florida and it was cold(-24)and so much snow, wow!. The magnetism of the Lakes is still there even in the winter. It was hard to just get started to leave. We wanted to drive around the lake and just reminisce. There is really no place like the lakes and the draw it has on us who grew up there. All of you who live there keep promoting the feeling of the "lakes".

Hope lots of you are planning to attend Winter Games this Weekend. Chili feed tonight and lots of delicious pies for dessert. The ice and snow are great for the games and snowmobiling. Lots of great food too. Check out Mineral City for great pasta and steaks. Great Omelets and Cinnamon Rolls at the Koffee Kup.

High speed internetavailable?
Friday, January 23, 2009 at 7:20 PM
What are the options in the Lakes area to receive high-speed internet out in the country? (east of S.L.) Anyone have Wild Blue? Good/Bad? Any others you recommend? Thanks!

Winter Games were wonderful! It was cold but there was very little wind. We got some great pics of the polar plunge, participated in the "Freeze your Fanny ride",and especially enjoyed seeing friends. Tweeters looks like it will be back in business come summer. LIFE IS GOOD.
