What a pretty day outside the window this morning. I'm looking forward to a fun day tomorrow watching all the vintage snowmobiles coming into town to drag race on Smiths Bay. Two fun weekends in a row. Everyone have a fun and safe weekend.

Heading to the lakes this weekend for some fun on the ice. Judging by the weather i have seen up there i doubt my question even needs to be asked but i want to make sure so i can find some other places to ride or where to stay away from. We will be on the northern part of east lake. Is there any open ice anywhere on any of the lakes, especially east lake? Thanks for the help!!

Hi Everyone! I just got my copy of the 2008 Vacation Okoboji magazine. I love all the beautiful summer pictures, it's a great remedy for my spring fever! I can't wait to get up there in the spring and open up the cottage. What else is everyone looking forward to in Spring? To me, the first few days when you can tell that the sun "warms" up - the breeze my still be chilly, but the sunshine is nice and warm...

Anyone want to hedge a bet on when the ice will go out? I'm assuming it won't be this week. brrr. ;) Average west lake ice out date is April 15th. Any guesses from anyone?

bojidreamin'still...
Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 1:55 PM
I'm going to stick with the average date for ice-out: April 15th. I know someone else wrote the first week of April, stating that there are some early signs for ice-out. That is great news!! Does anyone else have a guess? What is your favorite part of an Okoboji spring-time? I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a BAD case of spring fever!

brockmoomba05@yahoo.com
Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Im geting spring fever too!! I guessed Ice out first week of April. Lil Spirit,East, and Spirit Lake. West Lake may shoot into the second week of april. I have seen signs of standing water on seems where the ice has buckeled and caved in along rocky shorelines.. Ask me again middle of March it defenatly needs to warm up a heck of lot more so im basing it on a typical March.. Ice out is my fave part then i go fishing. how bout you boji?

I have some friends coming to town this weekend.. anything going on Saturday night?

I think my favorite part of spring is right after the dock goes in, because the water is so clear. I can just lay down on the dock, hang my head over the side and watch everything that is going on down in the water. It's a time to be excited for the upcoming summer, yet everything is still quiet and peaceful. It's just a good time to be still with the lake, and enjoy it.

your never old to wakeboard or try new tricks. I will defenetly have fun wakeboarding. I love slalom skiing the most. i was born in the 80s im almost 25 so yeah a young pup. you know at 40 you can still slalom ski. jumping is up to you. oh by the way if you do want to get into slalom again if your not in it now id recomend a slalom trainer rope (keeps the ski straight and talerates draging) also check out HO sports they have wake skis, combination jumpers/ trick skies kinda fun. by the when i re learned how to ski i learned on stinger jumpers thought u might get a kick out of it. and heck maybe get a ski boat again lol. not a I/O the real macoy. ski natique, moomba, mastercraft, malibu, centurion, tige, gekko ok u get the idea lol

Moomba, the folks have a Mastercraft .I did learn to slalom at an early age also.Isnt it funny how it is easier to slalom than to ski on two?once you get the hang of it of course. You are right, nothing beats an inboard for skiing, gotta have that hole shot!!BTW,I learned to ski behind a Ski Tique in 1974,smaller than a Nautiqe. The Correct Crafts were pretty cool back in the day.Have a good day buddy!

hello outlawmoomba05
Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 2:56 PM
Yes I agree with you on slalom sking. I have a hard time trick skiing cuz im more used to one ski. I might consider just puting a toe plate on one of my trickers this year and try with one. IM not ready to give it up. I love the old Ski Nautiques and Mastercrafts. Im still a fan of both brands. Even Malibu. Did you know Nautique made the first wakeboard boat with a tower and balest. Oh yea incase you were woundering I ski behind a Malibu. I like Moomba cuz its a low end base model that offers perfect pass and towers. kinda like Baja is a lower end performance boat which there is nothing wrong with that. I like them too. I will say I hope they stop puting towers on runabouts. the V design of the hull limits the wakeboarders and water skiers abilites with the wake being so wide and uncontorable compared to a ski/wakebard boat. they are too big for even people free skiing on doubles sometimes. My ablities were limited greatly behind a runabout in both slalom and wakeboarding. when a runabout runs in a slalom ski or a wakeboard tournement or is aproved by AWSA i will then change my mind untill then no one can change my opinion

I just realized the car isn't on the ice in Smith's Bay. Does anyone know if the car is going to be put out on the ice to guess when it will fall through? When the car falls through I know it's not too much longer before the Taco House is open! Ice out this year may be longer than the average April 5th date. It's been a long Winter. What are the odds we'll have a good Spring after the Winter we've had?

Monday, February 25, 2008 at 11:07 AM
The car will not be on Smiths bay this year. Im not sure the exacat details as to why. I do know it is a lot of work to remove the car out of the water as some people know from experiance if they have ever lost a car thru the ice. granted this is just a shell but its relatively the same about of work and same number of people needed to remove the car.
