Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1:35 PM It looks like the ice is starting to form on West Lake. From what I can tell on the cameras, East is already frozen over? What about Spirit? This should be good news for those planning the Winter Games! I remember last year we couldn't be on the ice because there wasn't any! :) |

Monday, December 3, 2007 at 7:53 PM I have to say after visiting Spenser's Underground the new teen hangout and coffee shop in Spirit Lake that I am VERY impressed! Dr. Steve Baskerville and his wife Sandy are truly wonderful caring people and they are providing such a positive and loving environment for our children. We are lucky to have such a place and while I was there I saw they are putting on a Christmas musical that is coming up as well as lockins for the jr high and high school students. I am glad to know as a parent that my children have somewhere they can go and be drug and alcohol free and in a loving and Christain environment. |
| Not last | Year |
Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 9:39 AM No, it wasn't last year - for Winter Games that there wasn't ice - it was the year before.... last year I was there and the wind chill was 20 below zero and there were lots of vehicles parked on the ice - that was when I decided I was a Summer visitor to the lakes... |
| Boji Girl | Last Year |
Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 9:52 AM Yup, I was there last year too and it was really, really cold and the wind was blowing pretty good. We watched the atv and motorcycle races by the Ritz and then the polar plunge by Okoboji Boat Works - Too bad they couldn't have had more on the ice but I don't think the ice was thick enough. - Hopefully this year. |

Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 3:09 PM So, you are looking for a little out of the box religion!! We meet every Sunday, raise our hands high screaming glory to the heavens. We rarely sit, as we are all nude. If this is more to your taste of religion,we would love to see you. Respectfully, Reverend Grizwald. |

Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 4:08 PM the mother of Mary VanderWoude, Okoboji's Mayor. She was a grand old gal and a character. As they say, "she comforted the afflicted, and afflicted the comforted"!! Reminded me of Maxine on the Hallmark cards. =) |

| Mineral City | Choke & Puke |
Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 2:38 PM Had a company party last night. Everyone that had steak was unhappy. I am 61 years old and have never sent a steak back, however my medium rare was raw and cold. Sent it back and it obviously insulted the cook as he sent it back very burnt black. Appears to be owned by a few wealthy people not on site, who only hires cheap help. Did look into the kitchen to notice a very young male trying to act like a cook. You have been warned enter at your own risk!!!! |

Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 8:46 AM The best steak is the steak you make at home on your own grill. Mineral City serves up excellent pasta - the lasagna I had was out of this world. Two thumbs up in my book |
| We like | it. |
Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 1:47 PM We have been to Mineral City several times. The owner has been in there cooking every time we've been there. It's always been good, and I've only heard good things about the place. Makes one wonder if there is a jealous restaurant owner around here that feels threatened by a good place to eat, and is trying to slam the place. Seems to happen a lot around here. I find it hard to believe that a 61 year old would put a post on here using the name "Choke and Puke". |

| Blue Water Cabaret | BWC |
Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 6:15 PM I was at the Holiday Wine Dine & Dance at the Blue Water Cabaret last weekend, and it was great! The food was delicious and the music was even better! Senn Menn and Billie James put on a terrific show. Shane, Brett and Tyler sang with Senn Menn - they made the show one of the best I've seen! |

Monday, December 24, 2007 at 7:08 AM I remember one of my favorite Christmas' ever. About 10 years ago we spent the holiday up at the cottage. My uncle flew in from California to join us. Our daughters were both quite young. I sent my husband out for a tree, with explicite instructions to get a SMALL tree. We popped popcorn and stung that with cranberries for garland. Prior to heading up they had made paper chains and painted pine cones. We even had pop bead chains. At our Advent workshop at church they had made an angel for the tree top. My husband returned home with a 12' tree. He said they were sold out everywhere and a worker at Furguson's said he could take anything he wanted from the dump pile behind the shop. We cut off the top 5'. It was the most "Charlie Brown" kind of tree...but it was wonderful! Sometimes it is good to step back and enjoy each other and the season in the true spirit of Christ...being with those you love and caring for all. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. |

| Mineral City | Choke & Puke |
Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 11:34 AM I have been to Mineral City 3 times. I do not own a restaurant, however cooked at one of the best. over 40 years ago. Was born in this area, and expect edible food. Do not judge on any first visit. First 2 times were edible, not talented service or recommendable food. 3rd time was total choke and puke, for a large party that had called in a reservation. Upon arriving nothing was set up as they had forgot!!! Totally unprofessional. My med rare steak was raw and upon asking for it to be done a bit more, it was sent back burnt black. I would think the owner would appreciate a complaint and improve service and food. Enter at your own risk!!!! |

| snowmobile | races |
Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 4:07 PM Hey all you vintage snowmobilers we are having a race. And for all the people remembering how much fun it was in the 80's. The race is Sat Feb 2, 2008. in front of OBW. Iowa Great Lakes Snowmobile Nationals. There will be a band after in OBW.Cluckers Chicken will be open and everyone is welcomed to come down and watch some pretty impressive racing. 90% of the people will be coming in from out of town so this should be good for the area. We want this to be a yearly event so please come and support. |
| We still | like it! |
Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 7:40 PM We laughed at your ridiculous post, and didn't "heed" your last warning about not going to Mineral City, and went there on Saturday, and got the same great food and service we have always gotten there. You sure seem to have an axe to grind with them for some reason. If you feel the owner would want to know about your bad experience, have the decency to call him on the phone or stop in and see him. Why would you feel the need to hide behind a computer and post your ramblings on a website that the owner might not even know exists? |

Friday, December 28, 2007 at 9:12 PM We appreciate all of your entries out there about us, the good and the bad. We're still trying to get the swing of things in the new restaurant and some things might not go according to plan. If anything we have done to offend anyone please let us know and we'll be more than happy to solve the problem quickly and effectively. We work as hard as we can at all of our sites and some of them require us to be on premise here and there. We try to be everywhere at once but that isn't possible so we entrust our wishes to our loyal staff to take care of things properly. If there is need for concern feel free to contact us at Mineral City in Boji @ 712-332-2222 or at Mineral City in Fort Dodge @ 515-955-8514. Ask for a manager of an owner and we will be more than happy to accomodate you. We hope to be a staple in the area at Okoboji and want as much feedback as possible to be able to consistently give everyone the best experience at our restaurant as possible. Thank You. From Mineral City Owners and Management |

Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 8:19 PM Ice Boats have come to Okoboji! There have been more ice boats on West Okoboji than there have been for years. We had 7 ice boats racing between Gull and Atwell Point today. The ice boats are using Gull Point State Park as a launching site. See website www.watersafetycouncil.org/livecam for live video of the launching site and racing. There should be more racing on Sunday and maybe Monday. There is talk of a 70 boat ice boat regatta the weekend of January 5-6. |

Monday, December 31, 2007 at 12:17 PM We ate at Mineral City this week and did not have a good experience either. The food was fare, but the service was horrible. When is come time to paying we paid in cash and the waittress tried shorting us $35!!! After pointing it out to her she really had no apologies and then after coming back the 2nd time she was still short a little over a dollar. Once messing up is bad enough, but when your waitress cannot even bring the correct change even the 2nd time after a complaint was made something is wrong!!! We asked for management and explained what happened. Management really didn't care either. I guess that it is normal to try to screw people out of money! Food was not that great to have to put up with that type of service |
