Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 6:52 PM Must be a glitch in the website. Every time I look there's only one message, and it's a different one. The one's I saw didn't deserve deletion, so what's the problem? |

| Great | Fireworks! |
Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 10:53 PM The fireworks on the 4th over West Okoboji were awesome! They always are, but seemed to be especially briliant this year. It seemed like there wasn't near the people or the traffic as usual though. I wonder why? Enjoy the rest of summer! |

Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 1:11 AM Just wanted to say that we will miss Rev. R.D. Streeter and his wife De, from the Calvary Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. He was transferred to Des Moines, and left last week. What wonderful people who did so much for the community! we learned so much from these neat people, and will always have great memories of the time that they were in Arnolds Park! |

| Re: Boats & Housts | Boji Girl |
Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 9:01 AM We were at the Lake last weekend and someone was talking about the docks. That there was a possibility that no one will have a dock that is on a public beach area? (like in the Triboji area) I know right now there are public beach's with privately maintained docks. So, did I hear wrong or is this what is going on? Interesting! |

Sunday, July 10, 2005 at 9:13 PM Sneaky's Chicken in Arnolds Park has the best chicken. They also have great pork tenderloins that are hand cut and breaded. |
| Where in the heck is . . . | sneaky's chicken?? |
Monday, July 11, 2005 at 8:50 AM There is an article in this month's Okoboji Magazine about Sneaky's Chicken. But where the heck is it? They say something like "off Hwy. 71 at Ackley Street" but I need landmarks! |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 8:57 AM I heard a rumor that Woodleys Mobile Home court on Lower Gar has been sold. Can anyone who has a place there confirm if that is true or not? If so how soon do the residents have before they must vacate? |
| Sneakys Chicken | Boji Girl |
Monday, July 11, 2005 at 9:33 AM Sneakys Chicken is the BEST! It is off of Hwy 71. It's kind of tucked away behind the resturant that use to be Eddie's Chicken which is now a cabaret type resturant and for the life of me I can't think of the name of it. Landmarks across the street is the Dry Dock and and Four Seasons Hotel. If you get close to the area I'm sure you'll find it. Hope this helps. |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 9:38 AM Let's hear it for Dickinson County's ACS Relay for Life! Another great year! |
| Woodleys | Boji Girl |
Monday, July 11, 2005 at 9:41 AM I've heard the same rumor. If you drive thru there and see all of the Mobile homes for sale I would think something is going on. Also, Mr. Woodley is in his 80's so that might tell you someting. I'd be very leery about buying in that area. |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 12:43 PM Isn't there a Restaurant on the South side of Big Spirit lake that serves great chicken? Anyone remember the name? Is it still open? By the way...Sneaky's is great too. |
| Regarding Chicken | Boji Girl |
Monday, July 11, 2005 at 1:17 PM The other resturant that is famous for it's chicken is Ginham Inn - they're known for their pan fried chicken and they serve it family style, thats also very good. |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 1:25 PM OK - this is quite a stretch of a question... but does anyone know what the heighth limit is for being able to make it under the bridges from East to West Lake... I have a friend that says their boat is too tall to make it under the bridge??? Does anyone know what the footage is? We know for sure it would never make it under the bridge from East to the Upper/Lower Gar.... |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 2:37 PM I've got a question hopefully someone can answer. We're going to the Beach Boys on the 23rd. Someone said you can bring lawn chairs and a cooler to these events. Anyone know if this is true? I can see the lawn chairs but I don't know about the cooler? Has anyone done this?? Thanks. |

Monday, July 11, 2005 at 3:02 PM My family (wife and two kids, 7 & 8)and I are coming to Okoboji for the first time this coming weekend for a few days. We're staying at the Fillenwarth. What are some "must do" items my family will enjoy? Also who has the best pizza and/or resturant for my family. We can't wait to get there. |

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 9:51 AM Everyone has their own favorites and I would like to share ours: Chicken--eat-in or carry out is Gingham Inn (one mile north of Spirit Lake (town) Hgwy 276 and great pizza would be Woody's right on Hgwy 71 by Four Season / Dry Dock. |

| Bridge Tender | Height |
Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 11:34 AM The height for a boat under the walking bridge between East and West Okoboji would be about 9 feet. It changes based on lake level. The Triggs/Hinshaw bridge is a little less. The Sawmill bridge that enters into Minnewashta is about five feet. Somebody might have more specific numbers. |

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 12:16 PM TO: sl1960a@yahoo.com Don't forget to go up to the Koffee Kup Kafe for breakfast -- it's right on the highway behind Fillenwarth's. they have some of the best cinnamon rolls (goooey!) and pancakes EVER! |

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 12:45 PM It's hard to explain but you don't really need THINGS to do--OKOBOJI is a enjoyment in itself. But Fillenwarth has lots of things to do; ask at the desk when you check in. Never have stayed there myself (one of the lucky ones who gets to claim OKOBOJI home-even if it is only on weekends) but have had several friends saty there and tells us that there is so much to do that they usually can not fit everything in! Have a great week-end and I bet it will not be your last! |

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 11:06 PM After your delicious broasted chicken dinner, you might want to head up to Spirit Lake to Hey, Good Cookies! for dessert. They make the best ice cream sandwiches with their homemade cookies and Ashby's ice cream...yum. Also great lattes'. Oh, and it's the Gingham Inn you're thinking of on the south side of Big Spirit and yes, they still serve broasted chicken that I've heard is really good. |

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 12:42 AM Two questions.... #1. Does anyone know if you can rent a theater like the Pioneer Theater for a weekend? #2. I'm toying with the idea to try to run a film festival in the area, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in paying to see a few movies that aren't mainstream that are made by aspiring filmakers? |

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 11:07 AM If you are in a hurry, the Hy-Vee Deli has the most awesome chicken...and it is probably the fastest you can get...my parents were just here last night...we got a pizza from Godfather's, potato wedges from WalMart, and Chicken and fruit from Hy-Vee and it was faster than any delivery and oh so yummy...plus, we have tons of leftovers for today...Of course KFC is great, who can beat their mashed potatoes and gravy ? Rio Pizzaria is also very good...I guess it just depends what your preference is...good luck...and happy eating !!!! |

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 12:41 PM Must do... Arnolds Park amusement park, Cart Ranch Mini Golf, Swimming beach/picnic at Pikes point, or if you have a boat ( or not) tie off at Gull point on the side the wind isn't, for a swim. One of my kids favorite things is going to the Abbey Gardner Cabin and museum. The guy there is so knowledgeable about the history and events that took place, and so fun to talk to. Then we walk to Pillsbury point and climb down the rocks and the kids love to wade there. Bring your camera, cuz the view is beautiful there. Also, a short drive (8 Miles or so) to do some hiking at Kettlesson Hogsback/ Marble lake area. The trails are well maintained, and kids love to hike in the woods. There are places to catch frogs, and pretty views there. Stop by the drive in by Ainsworth beach on the south shore of Big Spirit and have the biggest best Hawiaan Ice or Malt/sundae. Yum Yum! While your there, the carp are swimming by the hundreds up the spillway right now (about 100 yards from the drive in!) Your kids will love that! Oh yes, go for a ride on the Queen! And my kids also love the Sugar Shack candy store in the Emporium! Great little shops in there for Okoboji tshirts and stuff. You can also call Camp Foster and go horse back riding... the horses are gentle and sweet, and it's only $11 per person! Thats on the East side of East lake on Cty road M56. Like to dance? Every friday and Saturday the Greenspace at Arnold's Park has a free concert... Every size and age dances away at who ever plays( the 23 it's the Beach Boys!!!)( they are not free, but you could still hear the music Outside the concert ropes!)Oh yes, and check out the Theatres at both Treasure village and the Boji Bantam. There are schedules everywhere when you get to town. They are short plays meant for kids that always involve audience participation. And the last of my windy advise is to be sure to stop at the Nutty bar stand and experience one of those. If someone doesn't like nuts, they have'em with out too! There is so much more I could say here...can ya tell I love this place? Any one that works behind a counter in town can give you directions to any of these places, or you can email me at clwhitehair@msn.com Have a blast.. Keep a journal, and make great memories! |

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 1:29 PM Great list - I think you hit on most things we've done when we've been at the lakes. Couple of others - get a mini insane taco at Mrs. Lady's on 71 (there's nothing mini about them) and take a walk on the many bike trails. Just got back and I already miss the area and am already looking forward to next year... |

Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 8:15 AM To Movie Fan: That is one of the best ideas I have seen on here! Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 10:02 AM We have stayed at numerous motels/hotels/and resorts in the Okoboji area. This June we stayed at a small resort on the south side of West Lake. They had 1 and 2 bedroom units that were nice. The price is very reasonable, and our kids loved the gameroom, playground and the great public beach across the street. Now the resort is no Cresant Beach, but you pay about the 4th the cost of those places. The owners are a real nice young couple that will bendover backwards to make your stay fun. It's one of the small family resorts that people hate to see close, but I think this one will be around awhile. We are staying there again in Sept. (Great Aug and Sept rates). Give it a try, its called Harber View Resort. |

Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 2:38 PM We stayed at Harbor View Resort earlier this year. We really liked it. It's a small resort located across the street from a great public beach. The resort has a playground and a small game room. They also have a campfire in the back. The rooms are average to better than average. The one we had had a kitchen and livingroom and 2 bedrooms. we liked it because it has a deck outside your door and a grassy area that the kids could play all kinds of yard games that they provide. It's a small family resort that I would recommend. We"ve stayed at a lot of the resorts in the area, and for the money this may be the best. The rooms are between like 75 - 150 dollars depending on what you want. |

Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 2:44 AM www.okobojinovel.com America's heartthrob, Alex Gideon, needs to get away from the pressures of stardom and sneaks off, unannounced, to the most quiet, peaceful, remote, out-of-the-way place that he can find - Okoboji, in Iowa. He soon finds that Okoboji is not the laid-back retreat he expected. Goodbye, quiet getaway! OKOBOJI is a novel set in the Lake Okoboji resort region of northwest Iowa. The story is mainstream fiction, filled with drama, romance, and humor. The book is a "reality novel," with dozens of real people and businesses included in the story. The Lake Okoboji area, referred to simply as "Okoboji," by locals and tourists, is a more popular tourist destination than either The Bridges of Madison County or the Field of Dreams, both of which are also in Iowa. |

Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 12:05 PM Hello Arnolds Park, Iowa. My mother's aunt and uncle were Harry and Loretta Tenant. They owned the Curio Kastle museum and souvenier shop for many years. My mother, Frances Horton would visit often and would take us kids to the lake and the amusement park. What great memories. The wooden roller coaster was wonderful and scary. I have fond memories of spending time with "Uncle Harry and Aunt Loretta". They were great people in the community. If anyone has any stories to share, let me know. Thanks |

Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 12:08 AM In response to Water. Swimers itch & what is it & how nasty can it get? Hmmmmmmmm...well let me state first of all i'm not a biologist but having been both a native of okoboji & having had the great pleasure of encountering "swimmers itch". I will try to do my best to give you an idea of what it feels like first to encounter "swimmers itch". From my personal opinon of what it feels like that would be....taking off all ur clothes & rolling around in fiber glass insulation! How do you get rid of it? Well many different things have been tried I'm sure but the only thing I can recommend is Calmyne lotion(not sure on the spelling sorry)as you would for posion ivy/oak etc. It is not a pleasent thing to encounter and I have found it to be more prevelant on Big Spirit Lake around Marble Beach area than on West Lake say around Gull Point. So we don't use Marble much anymore. When asked the conservation officers basicly said it is caused by parasites that have lived on the dead critters such as birds that have died and are in the water, they get washed off of them and manage to live in the water looking for another host...YOU!!! to burrow under your skin as parasites will and there they die. Hence the amazing need for you to scratch every inch of your body after you encounter them. OH YES!! Did I forget to mention they will be attacking areas that I can not mention here on this post?!! YES THEY WILL!! SO......come prepaired.....WELCOME TO YOUR PERSONAL SHORT & NASTY COURSE ON..."SWIMMERS ITCH " |

Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 12:30 AM It can come from water "foul" poop. Avoid areas of ducks and geese at certain times of the season. |

Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 10:37 PM Just came in from the dock, listened to the Beach Boys Concert from afar (in Smith's Bay) It was like the old days, hearing music from the Old Roof Garden when the big bands played there in the 50's and 60's. Nice breeze, no mosquitos and fun to watch all the boats coming and going through the bridge. Nostalgia 101!! It's really great to live back in Okoboji again. Didn't realize how much I missed it. |

Monday, July 25, 2005 at 1:45 PM Hey Everybody. There's an awful lot of annoying chipmunks in the Lakes Area. How about a Chimichanga Chipmunk Roast at Terrace Park? |

| WOOD | FOREVER |
Monday, July 25, 2005 at 6:52 PM What are the hours of the wood boat show Saturday? Is there any live music on the Green Space Fri. or Sat. nights? Some think the boating gets a little crazy at 'Boji, but we returned home last night to hear that there were four boating accidents on Saylorville Lake (near DSM) this weekend! |

Monday, July 25, 2005 at 9:37 PM I think the Board of Directors are playing this weekend on the greenspace. They were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago and they are great. And, it's free! Doesn't get any better than that! |

Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 10:50 AM did you hear about the boat that exploded on east lake at camp foster?they had to take them to the hospital.I was there just a couple of weeks ago too.I just don't know how it happened. |

Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 1:30 PM I too saw that episode of the X-files and thought it was interesting that it was about Lake Okoboji, but it was funny how they spelled it....Lake Okobogee. It had a very interesting story line (most of the episodes do) and I can't help but wonder how they decided to title it that......... anyway I liked the earlier episodes better than the last season. It just wasen't the same without Scully, and Mulder. |

Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 1:27 PM We spent all of last week up at West Okoboji at Village West and man do we miss it already! Regarding "swimmer's itch" it is mostly my back and the back of my legs itching like crazy but we think that may be due to a slight suburn...it's all peeled by now but still itches somewhat. Hmm. David doesn't itch at all so it probably isn't the lake water... Regarding "The X Files"...I'm pretty sure there is a Lake Okeechobee in Florida or Louisianna but as I haven't seen the episode I can't speak for the locale... Can't wait until next summer!!!!! |

Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 6:33 PM I just wanted to say that this is a great way for people like me to get to know more about the area and the people of the lakes area. Although I grew up in Iowa, my wife and I are relocating from California to the area and are trying to figure this place out. Sounds like people who are moving here are not appreciated too much. We will be sure to try to blend in as locals. By the way, where is the best place to dock a boat during the "nice weather" months? |

Sunday, July 31, 2005 at 9:46 PM I am so sad to hear about Lyle, he and his family will be in our thoughts! He will surly be missed in Okoboji! |

Sunday, July 31, 2005 at 10:08 PM If people were willing to accept anyone and everyone the whole entire world would be a much better place to live in. And not be worried that if they lived in(milford) that they would be better accepted. Open your mind people and accept everyone. That is why we all live in the United States of America for the freedom of choice!!! Also remember that if we only let the people (in) that we wanted to we woul live in a very shallow world. |
